Your attitude may be keeping you from losing weight

E-mail Print

If you don't have the right attitude, you will not accomplish your fitness goals. Having an oversensitive, blame-the-world, or know-it-all personality will keep potentially dangerous weight on your body. Regardless of any workout technique, trainer, or diet plan, getting in shape depends on you. The right attitude usually separates those who lose weight from those who complain about the problem for years.

To effectively make changes in your body you can't be oversensitive to constructive criticism. A random individual calling you "fat" is disrespectful. Your doctor instructing you to lose weight to avoid future health issues is doing his/her job. If you ask a fitness consultant a question, it is their job to give you an honest answer. Constructive criticism helps you reach your goal. Stroking your ego is not the job of a fitness professional. If you are oversensitive, you will have difficulty reaching your goals.

It's no one's fault that you are out of shape. Quit blaming your kids, husband, wife, job, genetics or friends. If you are having personal issues, try to avoid neglecting your body. Causing harm to your body by eating unhealthy never solves a problem.

Although you may be born with some genetic disadvantages, most individuals have the ability to get in shape. Laziness, not poor genetics, is usually the reason you can't lose weight. If most of your family is obese, chances are they all had bad habits that were passed down thru generations. Your body may take an extra mile or rep to get the same results as another person.

If you're a know-it-all, don't ask for help from a fitness expert. When you hire a personal trainer or receive consultations, you must trust them. No fitness professional wants to listen to a "before picture" flapping their gums about fitness.  If you asked for help, allow someone to assist you without your constant input. Chances are you don't know as much as you think and could use assistance.

Many people want results but insist on doing it their way instead of the right way. You insist on trying countless diet gimmicks you see on TV. You have decided since you hate cardiovascular exercises, you will avoid them. Your stubbornness will result in a waste of time and money. If your way has not worked in seven years, it's not effective. If having a nice looking body is your goal, doing the correct combination of exercising and eating healthy is not your choice. You must do what it takes to get results.

When you are trying to accomplish fitness goals you must have a positive attitude.  Exercise is not always going to be comfortable or enjoyable. As long as you are not injuring yourself, you must sacrifice a little soreness or a slice a pizza to reach your ultimate goal. In most cases, it's not want you want to do it's what you need to do.

Tips of the Day

Number of sets

I’ve been doing a routine and wonder how many sets you should do I always believe in 3 or 4 sets.  In some cases 5 sets can be good if you lower the reps.  Switching your number of sets sometimes can help shock your muscles to grow or get stronger.  For endurance I would go with 4 sets and higher reps.  For just mass 4 set maybe 5 for lower reps.  Occassionally you can do some different like 2 sets of 30.
